Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2020

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We hope you'll join us in this important effort to raise awareness of domestic violence.

During the current public health crisis, raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of domestic violence is more important than ever. Victims face greater risk during times of isolation, including during quarantine and social distancing.

Check out our media kit for shareable images that you can use on your own social media accounts to help us encourage our friends and neighbors to join in the effort to raise awareness of domestic violence.

Listening From Home:

Here in Wisconsin and around the world, there has been a dramatic increase in domestic violence during the COVID-19 health crisis. During times of isolation, such as during quarantine or social distancing, victims of domestic violence are at much greater risk of abuse. This campaign aims to activate bystanders and share information that can help those who are experiencing violence during this unprecedented time.

Together, we can help our friends, neighbors, and communities by #listeningfromhome.

You can learn more about the #listeningfromhome campaign and watch the public service announcement at the No More website. If you are safe at home during isolation, you can help a survivor who is not. In an emergency, call 911. For resources, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233. Additional local resources are listed below.

#1Thing:

This year for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, join survivors and advocates in continuing the #1Thing campaign, based on the message that change can start with only #1Thing. Though a single person’s actions may seem insignificant, even small actions can be a catalyst for powerful change. When a community comes together, these small individual actions can make a huge difference.

If you could do just #1Thing and help bring an end to domestic violence, what would it be?

You can visit the Domestic Violence Awareness Project (DVAP) website for more information about the #1Thing campaign and additional resources.
